Although some mortgage programs do not require good credit, most programs have minimum credit requirements. Your credit, along with other factors like employment income, may influence the mortgage amount and interest rate.

Agencies gather information from each of your creditors (like banks, credit cards companies, governments, etc.) and use this information to calculate a credit score. If you've paid all your debts on time, you should have a high credit score.

At times, credit agencies may have erroneous information on your report. A lot of these items may be corrected by contacting the credit agency directly or by using a credit repair service. But first, you'll need to see what's on the report. To obtain a copy of credit report, contact any of the three most popular agencies:
